In our spiritual journey, we often encounter trials that can cast doubt on our faith. The doubts of the faithful are not a new phenomenon, and the Holy Scripture contains numerous examples of people who struggled with doubt. Today, we will explore how these stories can inspire us in our own struggles.
One of the most well-known examples of doubt in Scripture is Abraham. He received a promise from God that he would become the father of many nations; however, when he was already 100 years old and his wife was 90, doubts began to creep into his heart. He asked himself, "How can I have descendants at this age?" Yet, even in his doubts, Abraham remained faithful in his belief.
Romans 4:20-21"He did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised."
Next, we can mention Job, who experienced great suffering. He lost nearly everything, but even in these difficult times, he continued to perceive God as his support. His doubts were understandable, yet Job showed us that even in the darkest moments, it is important to turn to God for support.
Job 13:15"Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him; I will surely defend my ways to His face."
It is also worth mentioning Thomas, who after Christ’s resurrection did not believe what his friends told him. He wanted to see in order to believe. Here we see how Christ came to him with mercy and healing, addressing his doubts.
John 20:27"Then He said to Thomas, 'Put your finger here; see My hands. Reach out your hand and put it into My side. Stop doubting and believe.'
Dear friends, doubts are a part of our faith. They can be challenging, but they can also become an opportunity to deepen our trust in God. As it is stated in
Psalm 9:10"But you, Lord, are a shield around me; my glory, the One who lifts my head high."
