Dear brothers and sisters, in our faithful lives, it is extremely important to understand the spiritual gifts that the Lord bestows upon each of us. These gifts are unique to every individual and are intended to serve not only the church but also the community around us.
Before we delve deeper into this topic, we must ask ourselves: How can I recognize my spiritual gifts? First of all, it is essential to remember that from the moment we accept Christ into our lives, the Holy Spirit begins to work in us and endows us according to where He wishes to lead us.
In
Romans 12:6-8we see that everyone has their own gift. Before determining your gift, expect the Holy Spirit to reveal your strengths to you.“Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.”
It's also important to pray, asking God about the gifts He has given you.
James 1:5Pray for the revelation of your gifts and guidance on the right path.“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
The second step in discovering your spiritual gifts is to observe your own passions and interests. What ministries in the church appeal to you? Do you want to be part of a children’s ministry, or perhaps you feel uplifted while singing in the choir? Pay attention to these changes in your life.
We can also turn to our brothers and sisters in Christ for help. When we serve together, others can help us see what we may not notice on our own.
Proverbs 27:17Together we grow and help each other discover our gifts.“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”
Finally, we must use our spiritual gifts. Do not be afraid, as
1 Peter 4:10states. Don’t wait for someone else to tell you what to do. You can start serving today!“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.”
So, dear brothers and sisters, recognize your gifts, pray about them, observe your interests, and engage with others; serve in the church and community! May God bless you in this!
