When we talk about faith in action, we always mean that our faith should have a practical manifestation in our lives. The apostles were a wonderful example of how faith can change the lives of not only those who believe but also everyone around them. We are presented with vivid examples of how they served God despite challenges, persecution, and trials.
The first thing we can note is the courage of the apostles.
Acts 4:29-31In these words, we see how they prayed for the strength to be bold despite persecution and continued to fulfill God's will."And now, Lord, look upon their threats, and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus."
We also learn from their readiness to serve. When the apostles called for the first ministers, it was a testament to true community and unity.
Acts 6:2-4This indicates that ministry requires teamwork and the distribution of responsibilities."And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, ‘It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty, but we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.’"
The apostles were also bright examples of men and women who had unyielding faith in God even in the most difficult times.
Romans 1:17This forms the foundation of our faith: to trust God in all circumstances."For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’"
No less important is their attitude toward people. The apostles preached love and mercy, calling for compassion and assistance.
Today, we can do the same. When we live our faith, we bring God's presence into this world. Every good deed we perform, every action motivated by love, brings us closer to God.
Faith in action is not only our internal state but also our external testimony. Like the apostles, we are called to be a light to others.
Matthew 5:14-16Such a calling is a reminder to be an example of faith for others."You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
Therefore, let us take examples from the life of the apostles and apply them in our daily lives. May our faith in action become a testament to God's glory in this world!
