Serving others is an important component of our faith in Christ. For us, as followers of Jesus, it is vital not only to believe but also to act. How can we serve others in our daily lives? Let’s consider the examples of service demonstrated by Jesus Himself to fulfill our calling in life.
There are many examples of service that Jesus performed during His earthly ministry. He didn’t just teach people but took action as well. One of the most vivid moments is found in John 13:14-15:
John 13:14-15"So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you."
In this passage, Jesus demonstrates a true lesson of humility and service. He does not consider Himself higher than His disciples; rather, He shows how important it is to serve others. The washing of feet is a symbol of purification and the great sacrifices we must make for our neighbors. In everyday life, this can manifest in small acts: preparing a meal for someone, helping around the house, or simply listening when someone needs support.
Another important example is found in Matthew 25:35-40, where Jesus speaks about how we serve others:
Matthew 25:35-40"For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me." Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?' And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'
This text calls us to pay attention to the needs of those around us. Jesus proclaims that our service to others is a manifestation of our service to Him. This means that even the smallest acts of kindness hold great significance. When we help others, we serve God, creating unbreakable bonds of love and understanding.
It should also be noted that serving can sometimes be challenging, but Jesus promised that we are not alone in our efforts. Matthew 28:20 states:
Matthew 28:20"And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen."
This promise encourages us in our service to others. When we act with love and zeal, Jesus promises to be with us, providing strength and wisdom. Whether it’s a small task or a large deed, every child of God can make an effort to serve.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, to take example from Jesus and serve every day. A life with Christ is a life filled with service. Your small acts of kindness can change the world around you! Do not be afraid to do good deeds and remember to serve with joy, for you are serving God Himself.
