In today's world, filled with challenges and concerns, many of us seek ways to strengthen our faith and grow spiritually. One of the most effective ways to find fulfillment in our lives is through serving others. Mark 10:45 reminds us of the example set by our Savior:
Mark 10:45“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
This verse reveals the true essence of service. Jesus, being omnipresent and omnipotent, did not come to reign, but to serve. He showed us that true strength and greatness come through serving others. When we serve, we follow His example, and at the same time, we become witnesses of God's love in action.
Service can take many forms. It can be helping a neighbor, participating in volunteer activities, supporting those in need, or simply selflessly listening to a friend in difficult times. Each of these actions not only changes the lives of those we serve; they also transform our own lives. By opening our hearts to service, we learn the craft of self-denial. 2 Corinthians 9:7 also affirms:
2 Corinthians 9:7“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Spiritual growth through service is a unique process. When we express love for others, we receive more than we give. A challenge some of us may face is the feeling of burden or even resistance to the willingness to serve. We may think we don’t have enough time, talents, or resources to help others. But in reality, we must always remember that service is not about giving from excess, but about sharing the gifts that God has given us.
Service also teaches us humility. By giving ourselves in service, we become smaller in the eyes of the world, but greater in the eyes of God. Luke 6:38 reflects this concept:
Luke 6:38“Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”
To begin your journey of service, it is worth identifying your talents and interests. What ignites your passion? What needs do you see around you? Start with small acts and be ready for great changes. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are created for good works:
Ephesians 2:10“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Thus, service is not only an opportunity to help others but also a chance to grow spiritually. Every time we step outside of our “self” and care for others, our faith becomes greater, and our connection with God strengthens. Service is a pathway to transformation that leads to a deeper understanding of God’s blessings in our lives.
