Charity in the New Testament: How Serving Our Neighbor Changes Our Lives?

Today we will talk about the importance of serving our neighbor in the New Testament. The Bible clearly states that serving others is one of the fundamental principles of our faith.

Matthew 25:35-40

"For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you welcomed me; I was naked, and you clothed me; I was sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me." Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty, and give you drink?'"

When we consider these words, it is important to understand that serving our neighbor is not just an act of charity, but an essential element of our spiritual practice. Every time we help those in need, we are actually serving Christ. These simple actions typically have a huge impact on our own lives and the lives of those around us.

Faith without works is dead! This is what James says in his epistle. Serving our neighbor is an expression of active faith.

James 2:17

"So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead."

Remembering this, we also understand that serving those in need shapes us spiritually. It helps us break free from selfishness and opens our hearts to love and compassion. When we serve others, we become part of God's plan for this earth — we become His hands and heart for those in need.

Service can take many forms — from a simple greeting on the street to organizing large social projects that can transform entire communities. For example, some churches actively engage in charity events, supporting children in crisis situations or people who have lost their homes due to natural disasters.

Serving our neighbor changes not only the lives of those who receive help but also those who provide it. I am convinced that one day the Savior will tell us: "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Now is the time for us to truly understand how our actions can impact the world around us.

Galatians 6:9

"Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."

Therefore, let us not stop at what we have achieved! If you have the opportunity to help or support someone — take it for the good. This path may open new horizons in our spiritual development and serve as an example for others.

I invite all of you to join in a service that changes lives. We can accomplish a great deal together, and our shared faith and actions can bring about tremendous change in our world. These actions are not just about charity, but about the true love that we have received from God.

I urge you to be active in serving our neighbor! May your heart be filled with love for others, and may your actions transform the world around you!
