In a world that is constantly shifting from one direction to another, we, as Christians, are called to be a light in the darkness. One of the key aspects of our life in faith is humility before God. The Word of God invites us to humility and obedience, reminding us that this is the path to true freedom and blessing. Let us consider the message we receive from
James 4:7-8.“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
“Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded!”
These two verses are a mighty call to action. The first calls us to be humble before God. “Submit yourselves to God” – this is not just a plea; it is a promise. When we put God first in our lives, we open the door for Him to act in and through us. We become participants in His blessings, for God is always ready to bless those who humbly seek His will.
The second aspect highlighted in the verse is the resistance to the devil. “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”. This is a reminder that in our struggle on the spiritual front, our strength comes through humility before God. We must not surrender to the enemy’s schemes; rather, we should embrace the victory we have through Christ. When we stand firm against temptations and attacks, based on our faith and humility, the devil will have no power over us.
In the third verse, God calls us to closeness:
James 4:8“Come near to God and he will come near to you.”
This call to closeness is an invitation to establish a relationship with our Creator. When we dedicate time for prayer, Bible reading, and fellowship with God, we gain freedom from everything that burdens us. Our souls are enlightened, we gain new perspectives, and we can stand firm in our faith.
It is important to always remember that humility is not a sign of weakness; it is faith in God’s strength. When we submit, we give control of our lives to Him. This means that we trust His words and definitions, we accept His plans for us, even if they differ from our own.
Therefore, I urge you, dear brothers and sisters, to submit to God. Let your hearts be open to His love and guidance. Let us seek His face to grow stronger in faith, and may our lives testify to His greatness.
