The word "submission" often evokes associations of subjugation, limitation, or even fear in our minds. However, in the context of Christian faith, submission to God is not only an expression of our humility but also an act of faith and confidence in His goodness and wisdom.
Throughout the pages of the Bible, we encounter numerous calls to submit to God’s will. This is particularly evident in the book of Romans.
Romans 12:1-2“Therefore, brothers, I urge you by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, as your spiritual service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
These verses emphasize that submission to God is not merely a mechanical adherence to rules or norms, but a deep desire to live in accordance with His will. When we submit to God, we express our faith that His plans for our lives are good and perfect.
But how can we practically exercise this submission in our daily lives? First and foremost, it is important to develop a personal relationship with God through prayer and reading Scripture. Prayer is our way of communicating with God, learning about His will, and receiving guidance.
Reading the Bible helps us understand God’s character, His promises, and His commandments. As we learn His word, we become more sensitive to what He expects from us.
Psalm 119:105The Word of God illuminates our path, helps us make the right decisions, and distinguish truth from deception.“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Additionally, it is important to surround ourselves with people who are also seeking God’s will in their lives. A community of believers can be a valuable resource for receiving support, advice, and prayer. When we understand that we are not alone in our desire to follow Christ, it motivates us to greater humility and faith.
It will not always be easy to submit to God. At times we will face challenges, doubts, and even rejection from those around us. But in those moments, it is crucial to remember that God is always with us, and He promises that in all things, even in the most difficult circumstances, His will is the best for us.
Romans 8:28This promise encourages us to trust Him and follow Him, regardless of the circumstances.“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God.”
Therefore, submission to God is not just actions, but a way of life. It manifests in our daily readiness to listen to Him, carry out His will, and serve others as He served us. May our lives become a living sacrifice, acceptable to Him, as the apostle Paul urged us. Amen.
