Love is one of the most defining concepts in the Bible. It permeates all areas of our lives, starting from love for God and ending with love for our neighbor. In
1 John 4:8we see that the very essence of God is love. Therefore, if we want to adhere to God's commandments and live in fullness, we must learn to love as Jesus loves."Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love."
How do we do this? First of all, we need to understand that Jesus' love is unconditional. He loved us not because of our achievements or good deeds, but simply because. As it is written in
Romans 5:8This is a tremendous example of unconditional love that can transform our attitude toward others."But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
The next step in learning to love as Jesus loves is forgiveness. Quite often, we hold grudges against people and are unable to forgive them their offenses. But Jesus taught us about forgiveness. The well-known words from
Matthew 6:14-15testify to the importance of forgiveness. Sometimes, to love others, we need to let go of our negative feelings and resentments."For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."
Moreover, we must remember that love without action is just empty words. As
James 2:17states, our love must also manifest in our actions. We can express our love through various deeds: by helping, supporting, offering kind words, or simply by being present. Jesus' love was active; it was expressed in serving people. As disciples of Jesus, we too must follow this example."So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead."
In conclusion, it is worth noting that learning to love as Jesus loves is a process. It requires time, effort, and, above all, an open heart. We must pray and ask God to give us the strength to love others, even when it is difficult. As the song goes, "the first thing you need to do is to open your heart to love."
Let us pray together that God fills us with His love so that we can share it with others!
