When we talk about children's ministry, we cannot overlook the importance of kindness. Kindness is one of those traits that help shape our children's hearts in Christ. It serves as an invisible bridge connecting us with God and with one another.
The first thing we must remember is that kindness begins with us, the adults. As ministers, we are examples for the children. If we want our children to be kind, we must first embody this quality in our own lives. When children see kindness in us, they begin to emulate us.
Our prayer and teaching should reflect God's kindness. The Holy Scripture says:
Ephesians 4:32"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."
It is important to create an environment where children can practice kindness. At every children's ministry, we can plan games and activities that encourage children to support and cooperate with each other. For instance, we might organize contests for the best act of kindness of the week or group projects where children work together toward a common goal.
Another effective way to teach children about kindness is the phrase "kindness always returns." This can be part of our conversations and teaching materials. Children need to understand that when they act with kindness, they are not only doing something good for others but also receiving joy and satisfaction in their own lives.
Let us not forget about biblical stories that demonstrate the significance of kindness. The story of the Good Samaritan is a classic example of how we can help children understand the importance of being kind to others, regardless of who they are.
Luke 10:33-34"But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him."
By teaching children the importance of kindness, we cultivate in them a sacred principle—to love and help one another. Our Lord will bless our efforts as we strive to show kindness in our actions every day.
I invite you to join us at our next children's ministry, where we will teach and practice kindness. Join our team! Together, we can transform the lives of our children and teach them to live in love and kindness.
