Let us together look into 1 Corinthians 12, where the Apostle Paul reveals to us important understanding of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This chapter teaches us how each believer is part of the body of Christ and how we can serve one another by using the gifts given to us.
If we turn to
1 Corinthians 12:4-7, we see that the gifts are not just for personal success, but for the benefit of all."There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit; there are different kinds of service, but the same Lord; there are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good."
Each of us has our unique gift that God has bestowed upon us for service. These can be speech-related gifts—such as preaching or teaching—as well as practical gifts, like helping or serving in charity. It is important to remember that each gift is valuable to God and to the church.
Further in this same chapter, Paul continues to explain how these gifts work together in the body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:12-14He paints a picture of the unity and diversity that exists in the church—we are all different, yet we form one whole in Christ."For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ."
It is also important to note that we should not envy one another for our gifts. As stated in
1 Corinthians 12:26, we should support and pray for one another, as serving in the church is one big community that serves God together."If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together."
So, what is your place in the body of Christ? What gifts have you received? Think about this and start serving today. Each of us can be a blessing to others by using the gifts that God has given us.
